Of the many popular PlayStation exclusives, Media Molecule’s Dreams occupies an interesting space. It’s still ostensibly PS4 title but continues to receive extensive support from the community. In a new article by GamesIndustry on Dreams’ tools being used to teach game development, the developer confirmed that more than 150,000 Dreams have been published thus far.
On top of this, players have created 400,000 different scenes and 400,000 elements (which can be used as assets in creation mode). Each week, more than 5,000 new creations are published. In the past seven days, 25 percent of all users have spent their time creating elements, expanding the toolset even further.
DreamStats notes that there are more than 1.87 million registered users for the title. Daily users peaked at 1,260 on February 12th. That being said, the community has been active and the tools have helped users find positions in the gaming industry. Media Molecule live services director Abbie Heppe noted one person joining Insomniac. There’s also Dakota Scibilia, who joined Blizzard Entertainment as program manager in 2018 and is currently a game designer.
Media Molecule has been updating Dreams’ creation suite and adding new campaigns over time, like Ancient Dangers: A Bat’s Tale. Stay tuned for details on further updates in the meantime.
