At the UBS Global Technology Conference this week, EA’s Chief Financial Officer Blake Jorgenson expressed his approval for the Xbox One X, noting that it is “incredibly powerful”. He noted that upgrades such as seen with the Xbox One X does not bring with it the problems that arise every time a new console comes along.
In addition to this, EA hopes to introduce a new streaming service- similar to what we’ve seen with PlayStation Now- that will help “open gaming to a much broader audience.” EA is doing this with a partner and Jorgenson stated, “I think you’ll see a commercial offering probably in the next 2-3 years from us and a partner.” The company is clear on the fact that they don’t see such a streaming service as replacing console gaming. As of now, it certainly would be difficult for such a streaming service to reach the level of popularity as console gaming. But it is possible that such a streaming service could work provided there is the right infrastructure to support it.
While the aforementioned streaming service definitely has huge potential for the future of gaming, it remains to be seen where EA will be taking it. We’re also definitely curious about who EA is partnering with for this project so let’s wait and see.
