Final Fantasy 7 Remake Job Listing Describes It As An ‘Action’ Game

Square Enix opting for a change in direction for the upcoming remake?

We have many questions about Final Fantasy 7 Remake. Ever since it was announced back at E3 2015, there has been nothing but radio silence from Square Enix on that front. And even though recently they claimed that the game’s entered full active development, we’ve still had to rely on other sources to scrounge up some information on the game. Which is what we’re having to do here as well.

A job listing recently went up for Square Enix (translation via Siliconera), looking for VFX designers to work on Final Fantasy 7 Remake. What’s interesting about the listing, though, is that it describes the game as an “action game”. Final Fantasy VII, of course, was a traditional turn based JRPG, so terming the remake as an “action” title definitely qualifies as interesting, at the very least.

Of course, there is the fact to consider that starting with Final Fantasy 12, the series has been veering more into action-RPG territory with its combat systems, with each successive instalment inching closer to the “action” bracket. To say that Final Fantasy 7 Remake will be flat-out an action game probably won’t be all too accurate. Perhaps the listing is only suggesting that the combat system in the game will be more of a real-time action one, as has been the trend in the series in recent years, rather than suggesting that it is changing genres entirely.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake is currently without a release date, and has been ever since we knew it existed, but if Square Enix’s words are to be believed, development of the title is progressing well- better than well, actually. Stay tuned to GamingBolt for more updates on the game.
