The newest Famitsu Most Wanted charts are out, and it looks like not much has changed. The PS4 version of Dragon Quest 11 still is far and away at the top, with Final Fantasy 7 Remake being nestled between that and the Nintendo 3DS version of the game (which comes in at third place). Fire Emblem Echoes and Kingdom Hearts 3 round out the top 5, with Splatoon 2 just missing out on being included there.
Of course, one needs to remember that Famitsu’s polls are geared specifically towards the core gamer, and not the larger market, and often are not reflective of the larger market as a whole- for instance, Dragon Quest‘s larger appeal in Japan lies to the casual audience, one that is far likelier to purchase the cheaper, and more nostalgic, 3DS version of the game. However, from the charts, you would think the PS4 version of the game is primed to outsell the 3DS one- when it is likelier to be far closer than that.
Regardless, it should be interesting to see how all of these games perform- the Japanese market is on bit of a rebound lately, and I really hope these games perform well, and that that upswing continues.
