Final Fantasy 7 Remake Still an Episodic Release

Square Enix confirmed through a blog post it will still release in multiple parts.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake resurfaced yesterday with a big trailer at Sony’s State of Play streaming event. The game has been absent since its initial reveal at E3 2015, almost four full years ago. We know that development of the game shifted significantly since then, and one aspect that hasn’t been talked about was the initial announcement whether the game would still release in separate parts, not as a single title. Due to the game’s shifting development and absence for so long, many wondered, and perhaps hoped, that it might not still be the case. However, Square Enix have confirmed that the game will still release episodically.

In Japanese blog post, Square Enix talked about the game alongside its new trailer and explicitly stated it will be released in multiple parts as production of the remake is now fully underway (thanks to Gemastu for the translation). They don’t specify how many parts, so whether it’ll be two or three or even more is unknown. We’ll keep you updated.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake is currently announced for the PlayStation 4, and we’ll hear more about it in June, very likely at E3.
