Firewatch Sells 500,000 Copies in First Month, Recoups Investment

Publisher is "so grateful and relieved".

Campo Santo’s Firewatch has been quite the success for the developer, selling well beyond expectations. Its publisher Panic has now revealed just how successful the game has been – it recouped its investment in “about one day” and sold 500,000 copies within its first month.

In an official blog post, the publisher stated that, “Panic’s metric for Firewatch’s success was probably calibrated a little bit differently than Campo Santo’s. Of course we wanted to make the best possible game we could, but we also had made an investment we really hoped to recoup.

“How’d it go? Firewatch’s budget, while huge for us, was modest for a game of its quality and scope, but we made our investment back in about one day. Firewatch has sold around 500,000 full-price copies in its first month [and] it was even the top PlayStation Store digital download in February.

Firewatch can be considered a sales success. We’re so grateful. And relieved. But mostly grateful.”

Firewatch has had performance issues across platforms, especially on the PS4, but the team is working hard and “still fixing bugs” while looking to “improve performance across the board.”
