Fortnite Monthly Active Users Surpasses GTA Online in February – SuperData

Analyst firm also confirms that the title is earning more revenue than Take Two's title.

Epic Games’ Fortnite has been incredibly popular since its release but it didn’t properly skyrocket until Fortnite: Battle Royale arrived. The developer has touted it as perhaps the biggest game in the West and a new report by SuperData (via Games Industry International) on digital games seems to indicate exactly how.

The analyst firm revealed for its February report that Fortnite currently has more monthly active users than Grand Theft Auto Online. While Fortnite: Battle Royale is free to play, it’s racked up more than 40 million downloads and achieved peak of 3.4 million concurrent players at one point. However, when you consider that revenue from GTA Online is its main source of profit in every quarter, the fact that Fortnite: Battle Royale has more users per month is incredible.

The Battle Royale title also earned more money via its in-game purchases than Grand Theft Auto Online and FIFA 18. Only Call of Duty: WW2 managed to surpass it. That being said, the free to play console market has seen 359 percent year-over-year growth thanks to Fortnite and is in sixth for overall revenue on PC, just behind PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (which retails for $60).
