Google finally unveiled more information Stadia on how much Stadia would cost and when it would launch. Firstly, it’s launching in November and will be available in 14 different territories. The United States, Canada, Denmark, Belgium, Norway, Italy, Spain and United Kingdom are included. Secondly, it will have a subscription service called Stadia Pro which costs $9.99 per month.
A Founder’s Edition is currently available to pre-order which includes a Chromecast Ultra for 4K gaming, a limited edition Midnight Blue controller, three months of Stadia Pro, Destiny 2: The Collection, and voucher to give a friend the same subscription. You can also reserve a username early. The Founder’s Edition costs $129.99 but has region-specific pricing. Head here for more information on pricing in your region.
Here’s where things get complicated – Stadia Pro will be the only subscription available at launch with a free option coming next year. But Stadia Pro doesn’t provide access to a library of games. You can play at up to 4K resolution at 60 FPS with 5.1 Surround Sound and will receive free games over time. Discounts will also be provided on specific games but you have to purchase other games separately.
While Google may eventually have a library of free games for Stadia Pro, paying for games at retail means paying at full price. Google’s director of games Jack Buser told The Verge that, “We will sell these games like any other digital storefront.”
When Stadia Base launches for free next year, you’ll be able to play at up to 1080p resolution and 60 FPS with Stereo sound. You can still buy games but won’t receive any free titles or discounts. Stay tuned for more information on Stadia, especially with regards to bandwidth and how it leverages your connection.
