Google Stadia had quite the interesting reveal recently. Along with the revelation that its Stadia Pro subscription would cost $9.99 but not offer a library of games (focusing instead of 4K gaming and 60 FPS), we also learned about games coming to the service. Technically, what will consumers have to deal with when Stadia is out in November?
We already know that playing games will require, as Google’s Phil Harrison noted during Stadia Connect, “No downloads, no patches, no installs.” This is thanks to the platform’s cloud streaming capabilities- but the bandwidth demand is still fairly strong. To get that 4K HDR and 60fps experience with 5.1 Surround sound, you’ll need a 35 Mbps connection.
Though 10 Mbps is recommended for at least 720p/60fps gameplay, 5 Mbps is the bare essential for 720p resolution. As it stands, these are higher than average requirements when it comes to streaming services. If you want to test how viable your connection is, you can head to this handy link that Google provides.
