Grand Theft Auto 5 Reportedly Crashing On Older Xbox 360 Consoles

Old school 360 owners having issues with GTA V.

According to a number of posters on the Grand Theft Auto chat forum, GTAforums, gamers who bought the game for their aging Xbox 360’s are running into a multitude of freeze and crash errors while playing the latest game in the Grand Theft Auto series, Grand Theft Auto Five.

One comment read: “Once the driving portion of Franklin’s first mission starts, the game randomly freezes, forcing me to reboot the Xbox. There is no precursor for the game locking up, it appears to happen completely randomly and at different times during the mission. It has locked up on me early in the mission when Franklin’s buddy calls up on the cell phone just after the driving starts. It has locked up during the second portion of the driving mission when the cops are chasing. I’m not sure what to do.”

After reaching out to Xbox tech support, another forum listed this series of steps given to him by Microsoft, and claims that they were successful in fixing the problem:

1. Delete all GTAV game data.
2. Clear system cache three times.
3. Delete marketplace data from storage system items.
4. Unplug console for three minutes.
5. Install disc 1.
6. Power off, do not insert disc 2.
7. Restart.
8. Install disc 2.
9. Play.

While it certainly seems like a convoluted route, it’s better than not being able to play the game with the most successful launch in the history of gaming.
