It is less powerful for 3D processing, yes. It is better as a media center, hub type device with more potential for app support (Windows 8 universal apps). I just hope that MS can deliver on that potential. In the end, these things are just electronic devices. They will soon be outdated so going on and on about them is just silly. Enjoy what you have. Buy what you want (and can). I certainly will get a PS4 when the price is right and games can be bought at half the price they are now.

I will say that DirectX has always outperformed OpenGL in Windows games that support both rendering methods. Unity OpenGL is a good 15% slower than Unity DirectX. I would hope that Sony's first party studio's OpenGL implementation is better, though, but I would still bet that DirectX will outperform OpenGL, at least by a slight margin. But when I hear devs saying that their could be an order of mangitude more overdraw, that gets my attention. That would be something to behold.

Factual PS4 Hardware Advantages: +6 CUs, +560 GFlops (44% greater), +16 ROPs, +6 ACEs/CQs, better GPGPU support, better performing CPU, and faster unified memory. PS4 OS may also have less overhead or reserves.

Both Sony and MS have world class coders that will extract every bit of performance out of their consoles with their drivers/APIs/SDKs. The difference is PS4 simply has more powerful hardware to work with, so it will always stay ahead in graphics performance.

The bottom line is even if Xbox had a far more powerful CPU and 10000GB of 10000 GB/s memory, it's ability to render graphics is STILL limited by the weaker GPU. There's no getting around the weaker GPU, there's no free lunch.

If they're both running at the same resolution the Xbox version will have lower framerate and/or visual effects, or the PS4 hardware isn't being pushed.

PS4 will have better performing games for the entire generation as it has more powerful hardware, you can't overcome a hardware gap with better drivers/SDKs. Any game running on Xbox One can be run with better framerate/resolution/visual effects on PS4.

Xbox has memory size and bandwidth bottlenecks, weak GPU and GPGPU, only 16 ROPs, and OS virtualization overhead that all degrade gaming performance. Take your pick.

You can cry about DX12 and software updates all day, PS4's hardware is more powerful and Sony's ICE team and 1st party devs will take advantage to its fullest with their own APIs/drivers/SDKs/software.

truth #1: in approximately a year, Unity 5 will support DX12 and all current XBoxes (ones) will be fully functional dev kits.

truth #2: I will then be too busy developing military simulations with motion and voice controls to read all the posts by you and your cohorts about how great the latest multiplat runs on the PS4.
