GreedFall and Steel Rising Developer Spiders is Shutting Its Doors – Rumor

This is one closure that's particularly regrettable, and we hope that the team behind some truly great AA games lands on their feet.

It’s always sad to talk about layoffs and closures, but that doesn’t mean they’re going away anytime soon, in a turbulent time for modern gaming studios.

It’s reportedly Spiders this time around, and in case you haven’t heard of it before, it’s the studio behind both the GreedFall titles and Steelrising, a Soulslike that we were very impressed with in our review despite few flaws. The same goes for GreedFall: The Dying World, which was a largely solid RPG that did enough to stand out from its successful predecessor.

However, Origami reports that Spiders has fallen under the hammer owing to Nacon’s inability to find buyer for the studio following a bit of financial distress that required its sale. It’s now allegedly going to be liquidated and its 70-odd workforce laid off as a result. However, the team seems to be taking the bad news with their heads held high, which is probably the only positive in this unfortunate end to the studio’s long history. Nacon Tech, another arm of the parent company that focused on motion capture, has also met a similar fate.

We think we’re not alone in wishing the minds behind some great titles the very best of luck wherever they go next.
