Gran Turismo Sport’s Car Models Will be Unmatched Anywhere In The World, Says Polyphony CEO

Gran Turismo is about to make its next gen debut later this year with Gran Turismo Sport, the very first PS4 game in the series, as well as the first title to go for a potential eSports focus. A lot has been said about the visual quality of the game- in contrast to previous Gran Turismo titles, reception to Gran Turismo Sport‘s graphics has been mixed, though it has certainly improved over time.

However, Kazunori Yamauchi, CEO of developer Polyphony Digital, told IGN that he truly thinks that the car models in the game will be unmatched- that they will, in fact, be so good that they will still be used in the next PlayStation.

“The models that we use for Gran Turismo Sport now, these models will probably support generations of consoles beyond the PlayStation 4 and the PlayStation 4 Pro,” Yamauchi said.

“This level of data will probably carry us for the next 10 years or so, I think, because the level of precision of these models is unmatched anywhere in the world right now. The only models that are higher in quality to what we have here would be the CAD models coming straight from the manufacturers, which cannot be rendered in real-time, obviously.

“For models that can be rendered in real-time, this really is the best data that you’ll find anywhere in the world.”

Those are bold words- although, of course, Yamauchi has always been outspoken. Hopefully, the final game is all that he is building it up to be. Gran Turismo was once the premier racing sim franchise- right now it has a lot of ground to cover before fans are willing to give it the benefit of the doubt again.
