As if we expected a Halo title not to have a strong showing. 343 Industries fought through leaks, some odd critical reactions and the pressure of succeeding Bungie in the Halo legacy to deliver a commercial success with Halo 4. It recently debuted at number 1 on UK charts, surpassing Assassin’s Creed 3 with it’s entry.
However, try as they might, 343 Industries just couldn’t best Bungie’s stellar efforts in terms of week one sales. Via UK sales charts provided by GfK Chart-Track, Halo 4 became the 18th largest SKU launch in terms of week one sales. This puts it firmly behind Halo 3 which is currently the 15th largest and Halo Reach which is ranked at 12th.
It’s odd to be sure, but considering the large number of releases, especially when stacked up against the stigma of being a non-Bungie Halo title, it’s somewhat expected. This doesn’t mean that it’s any less of a success for the franchise though.
Let’s see if Microsoft agrees, given that this is the most expensive Halo game yet developed.
