Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft has received a favourable critical and commercial response since its launch, and as producer Yong Woo told IGN, one of the key elements to keeping the game running – ideally as long as WoW – is to price items fairly.
“Universally we’ve been getting feedback that our pricing is very generous. To us, that’s important. For us, we’re here for the long run. We’re not here to make a quick buck. I want to be playing and working on Hearthstone 10 years from now and from that end, instead of focusing on maximising immediate profit, Hearthstone is really about being able to play it how you want to.”
It’s an interesting though especially since WoW has struggled with subscribers for the past few years. There haven’t been any noticeable increases in the past few years, leading to the studio focusing more on catering to its current base rather than attracting newer consumers. Can it keep Hearthstone going though? We’ll find out in the coming years.
