Hellblade is due out later this year, and developers Ninja Theory are meanwhile keeping us clued in and apprised to the game’s progress- take this newest developer diary for the game, for instance. In this new video, Ninja Theory goes in depth into the creation of the sound design for the game- which, given the game’s subject matter of psychological torment, would be an extremely important thing to get right (but owing to the subtleties and nuances they have to portray, would be extremely easy to get wrong).
One of the most interesting things this game will do is utilize the McGurk Effect- since the game takes place inside Senua’s had and psyche, her perception of the world changes in relation to the state of her mind. Put simply, the sounds you hear will change based on where you are in Senua’s psyche at the current moment of time, and how her psyche is in the first place.
