Hideo Kojima Departs From Konami – Report

Metal Gear series creator leaves company after three decades.

It’s not quite official but according to a source that spoke to the New Yorker, Metal Gear Solid series creator and director Hideo Kojima has left from Konami and Kojima Productions. Kojima was with the company since 1986

Apparently the departure happened on October 9th and the source reportedly attended a ceremony for Kojima. Konami has yet to respond to the same but there will likely be an official announcement soon. Kojima does have a non-compete clause until December which will prevent him from signing with another company and making new games so expect to hear about the man’s future only after that’s up.

Rumours began earlier this year about rifts between Kojima and Konami based on rising development costs for Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain. This was followed by Konami cancelling Silent Hills (Kojima’s collaboration with Guillermo del Toro) and removing his name from Metal Gear Solid-related website entries and box art. What are your thoughts on Kojima finally leaving Konami? Let us know in the comments.
