Renowned game designer and Kojima Productions founder Hideo Kojima has received the highest honorary award from the Japanese Agency of Cultural Affairs. Upon receiving the award of the 72nd Minister of Education Award for Fine Arts, the Metal Gear Solid creator took to Twitter to inform his fans of this achievement.
Members of the selection committee were highly impressed by Kojima’s work on his latest release Death Stranding. Kojima is the second personality from the games industry to receive this honor, with the first being Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto.
WIdely credited for inventing the tactical espionage action genre with the original Metal Gear Solid, Koijma is considered by many as an auteur of the games industry – thanks to the sheer amount of creativity, his signature style of expository-heavy storytelling, and a general sense of eccentricity within his games.
Having worked with Konami on every mainline Metal Gear Solid game, Kojima now runs his own independent studio in the form of Kojima Productions.
