Hideo Kojima Wants Kojima Productions To Eventually Pursue Films

The man wants to eventually get into films after years of influences.

Hideo Kojima’s newest game is almost among us after a very long road of teasing, vague trailers and even vaguer descriptions. It’s sure to be quite the ride, and since its beginnings you’ve seen Kojima’s fascination with film all over it. Not only does it star lot of Hollywood talent in leading roles and multiple cameos, it’s sure to have many elaborate cutscenes and movie-like cinematics. It seems he’s also got his sight on going into film at some point, too.

BBC did a recent documentary on the making of Death Stranding. In it they talk about a lot of aspects of the game, but Kojima also drops that eventually he’d like to see the studio he formed after his exit from Konami, Kojima Productions, go into films. There’s no details behind that, whether he means full features, shorts, live action or animated in some way.

Kojima’s fascination with films, particularly Hollywood blockbusters, isn’t anything new. The Metal Gear Solid franchise he created and spearheaded for nearly three decades was always filled with movie references and influences it wore on its sleeve. What an actual film from him would look like is anyone’s guess, and considering how he’s already talked about his next project, it’s no telling when this theoretical film(s) would even begin.
