A recent Steam survey has offered a look at the current success of other VR headsets like HTC Vive (Valve’s VR solution) and Oculus Rift. The numbers aren’t exactly encouraging.
The number of HTC Vive owners increased by 0.3 percent in July and zero percent in August. Oculus Rift displayed 0.3 percent increase in July and 0.1 percent increased in October. Currently, 0.18 percent of Steam players have an HTC Vive. That number is 0.10 percent for Oculus Rift.
Though both systems launched with a strong amount of stock, it seems that the high price of admission and lack of major releases has stunted growth somewhat. How this will affect Sony, which launches the cheapest VR solution for PS4 with PlayStation VR and has a fairly solid release line-up already planned, will be seen after its VR headset releases on October 13th.
