The HTC Vive is the highest end VR solution currently available to the market. This is reflected in the price too, as it sets you back by a hefty $799, next to the Oculus Rift’s $599, or PlayStation VR’s slightly more sensible $399- but it also ensures that you get the full package right out of the box. The HTC Vive retail packages come with not just the headset, but everything necessary to ensure that you can have the full VR experience without needing to purchase anything else (unlike Oculus, where the Oculus Touch controllers need to be purchased separately, or PlayStation VR, which does not have the PlayStation Camera or PlayStation Move in the package).
The result of all of this, however, is that the retail package for the HTC Vive resembles LEGO construction set, with sixteen separate components in the box– this includes the headset, the Lighthouse towers used to set up the room scale tracking system, and all the necessary cables used to link them up. It’s slightly insane- but hey, it’s the price you pay for the ultimate in VR.
