iBomber Defense Review

Tower Defense games on the iOS? That’s a first. Well, not really. iBomber Defense for the iPad is a pretty awesome game, but the main reason why I feel that way is because I adore tower defense games. The gameplay is pretty simple – you have to place defensive towers and survive a bunch of waves. How you place these defensive weaponry decides if you clear the level or not. It’s pretty straightforward early on in the game.

Once you clear levels, you can unlock new and powerful weaponry. Machine guns are faster, but deal less damage, and cannons do the exact opposite. The combination of two, can really whittle down an enemy wave. There are plenty of great looking levels here, and the entire game is set during World War II. It looks gorgeous on an iPad. I can’t wait to play this game on the new iPad and hopefully developers will patch this to support the new resolution.

Now comes the downer. The controls are horrendous. Yep, and it takes the fun out of the game, when you mess up or the game doesn’t register your commands. Of course, it’s not game breaking but it can get really annoying from time to time. You can repair the turrets, and some of the powerful enemies can dish out more damage, so you have to be on your toes. Some levels go up to 40 waves, but I didn’t really mind it because, it’s fun.

If you mess up – you can rewind the game and undo your mistake – and place the towers in proper locations. Trial and error happens here a lot, but it’s not that big deal. You can also upgrade the towers, and hey, what else did you expect from a tower defense game? There are a lot of towers here from AA guns to Flak cannons, and their placements depends how quickly you take down a wave. There are 22 locations here, so a lot of content is at your disposal.

If you are a tower defense fan, then this game will give you everything you want and is a very competent iOS game. The price is slightly on the higher side compared to the other iOS games out there – and will set you back by $2.99, but the quality here is undeniable, and if you can adjust to the controls and happen to be a fan of this genre, then this game will keep you occupied for a long time.

This game was reviewed on the iPad 2.
