The Konami and Kojima spat has become the stuff of legend, at this point. Legendary creator Hideo Kojima, the creator of Metal Gear, is apparently going to be leaving Konami once Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain launches later this year. The split does not appear to be amicable, either, as Konami has since been scrubbing Kojima’s name from all associated products, canceling games that he had a hand in other than Phantom Pain, and also been restricting his communication with the media.
A video recently went up on YouTube- , George “Super Bunnyhop” Weidman published YouTube video alleging he had information about the ongoing tension between Konami and Hideo Kojima. The video was using sources from inside Konami to explain what had happened (though it was unverified)- the trouble is, it is now offline, as Konami appears to have issued a copyright strike against it.
Which is one way to confirm the veracity of everything it said. Because if they hadn’t gone ahead and done this, a case would have been able to made that the video was speculative and unsubstantiated. Now? Hell, now we know it was largely accurate, and Konami continues to come off as a heavy handed, hopelessly out of touch corporation.
Which is sad, considering how great it used to be once, not so long ago.
