I think it’s sub-par because nothing we do really matters. We have no choice but to be the hero and everybody loves the PC after two sentences. There’s no sense of immediacy to work on the main story despite the apparent desperation the PC express at the beginning of the game.

It makes no sense at all.

Amazing how many people think Fallout 4 is subpar. In my opinion, it’s easily the best Fallout game ever, if not the best GAME ever. I’m at 150 hours and still have no desire to play another game.

I actually agree with your points but it doesn’t make it feel like an average game to me. Fallout 4 has been awesome so far. Traits were cool (and they should have it back) but I definitely have decided not to use traits in builds since Fallout 1 so what am I missing?

But to say the leveling system is shallow? how so? the skill point system was not any better in fallout 3 and new vegas. I just pumped SPECIAL points to INT to max out the amount of skill points I get per level and just became awesome at everything even conversations that require skill point checks.
