We earlier covered how a well-known hacker Marcan had found out the Wii U processor clock speed which was set at 1.24 GHz, now apparently he has hinted the Xbox 720 processor speed as well.
Xbox 720 in most circles on the Internet, is called Durango, which was the official name according to a now-fired Crytek employee. Marcan said that the Durango’s processor runs at 1.6 Ghz, which indirectly tells you that clock speed is nothing and it’s the architecture that matters.
1.6 GHz would be a downgrade over the current 3 GHz per core of the Xbox 360 processor Xenon.
If you want more evidence that MHz isn’t everything, a little birdie points out that Durango (Xbox 720) is specc’ed to have a 1.6GHz CPU.
Food for thought. (And don’t bother asking me who that little birdie is.)
I know it would be a bit hypocritical if I go “Omg, Microsoft made a better processor which runs at a lower clock speed”, since I did the complete opposite last week with the Wii U, but as they say, there are some things you just take for granted, like, Nintendo with terrible specs.
However, since Marcan isn’t revealing his “birdie”, there’s nothing we can do but speculate. So what do you think?
