Marvel’s Wolverine Includes Sabretooth as An Ally Who Competes For Kills, Says Insomniac

You can also expect Wolverine to work alongside "other allies" and team up with Jean Grey once more for some stealth sections.

Insomniac Games finally showed some extended gameplay of Marvel’s Wolverine, and it’s even more unrelentingly gory than many of us could have expected. Of course, there were plenty of surprises as well, from Jean Grey arriving to assist Logan to the reveal of Sabretooth in the end.

You would think that the latter is another villain that players would have to deal with. But surprisingly, they’re actually working together as a team. Don’t expect the same dynamic as with Jean, however, as game director Mike Daly told IGN, “Logan and Sabretooth have a very competitive dynamic between them. Whereas Jean Grey might give you an opportunity to get a kill, with Sabretooth fighting alongside you, it’s more like you think you’ve got a kill and he rushes in to steal it from you, and their combat banter brings out that dynamic and makes the whole fight more fun.”

Wolverine will have “other allies” to fight alongside throughout the experience, and we’d be surprised if Mystique isn’t in the running. Don’t worry – his partnership with Jean isn’t a one-off thing. “They will work together more later on in the game, and Jean can use her telepathy to help Logan in stealth segments as well to give him an edge by dimming enemy perceptions,” says Daly.

Of course, given the history between Wolverine and Sabretooth, it wouldn’t be surprising if they eventually end up coming to blows. It’s iconic, if nothing else.

Marvel’s Wolverine launches on September 15th for PS5. Pre-orders are available with the Standard Edition costing $69.99 and the Deluxe Edition retailing for $79.99. Taking notes from Insomniac’s Spider-Man series, the latter includes five exclusive suits and claws, and you also get three Technique Points for an early edge.

Those who pre-order either edition will receive the Classic Brown Suit and the Reflective Claws as early unlocks along with one Technique Point. Stay tuned for more details and gameplay in the coming months, as Wolverine’s mission to stop Trask and the Reavers is fully revealed.
