Mass Effect Film/Series Adaptation Possibly Being Teased by Henry Cavill

Geralt of Rivia, Superman, and... Commander Shepard?

There’s been a massive uptick in adaptations of video games of late, with the film and television industries suddenly realizing the value of gaming properties and deciding to adapt many of them into what they are hoping will be successful films and TV shows. From an Uncharted film to an HBO adaptation of The Last of Us to a Netflix series for The Witcher, many major gaming properties are making the jump.

It’s possible that BioWare’s Mass Effect could be next in line to do that. Henry Cavill – who you might know as Superman or Geralt of Rivia – recently took to Instagram in a post that seemed to be teasing a “secret” project, accompanied with an image of himself and a document, whose text, cheekily enough, was blurred out.

The folks over at Game Pressure, however, managed to use the Focus Magic software to remove the blur, and lo and behold- words such as “Cerberus”, “Reaper”, “Geth”, and “Tali’Zorah” can be clearly seen written on the document. It seems that the document is holding a Wikipedia entry of Mass Effect 3, which seems pretty much in line with brief explanatory texts for properties that are generally provided to actors.

Given the fact that Cavill is a known fan of the Mass Effect games, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him portraying Commander Shepard in a film or television adaptation of the series. I’m sure there are many in the industry who would be looking at the success of The Expanse and wondering just how well Mass Effect would do in the same space. I’d wager a properly realized adaptation would actually do quite well.

There’s plenty of Mass Effect content coming where games are concerned as well, with Mass Effect: Legendary Edition launching this May, and Mass Effect 4 (or whatever it ends up being called) also in the works.
