MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries Developer “Still Interested” in VR

However, it will only consider plans to implement it in 2020.

Piranha Games’ MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries is the follow-up to the beloved cult-classic franchise but arrives without VR support. Though the developer noted its interest in implementing support for virtual reality, it seems that it reconsidered before launch. However, it seems there’s still interest in VR as a platform overall.

Speaking to VentureBeat, a spokesperson from the studio said, “Officially, Piranha is still interested in VR as a platform, but no plans to consider implementation until next year.” Which is to say that we’ll have to wait till next year before support is even considered. It’s perhaps likely that the studio wants to gauge demand for the feature before pouring resources into it.

The immersion would be incredible though – who hasn’t dreamed of piloting a mech (especially when MechWarrior was still at the height of its popularity)? We’ll have to wait and see where the studio goes from here – it could be a long wait or not happen at all. MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries is currently available for PC and exclusive to the Epic Games Store.
