Though Dragon Quest Monsters 2 managed to sell more than 100K copies this week in Japan, sales of the Nintendo 3DS XL decreased according to the latest Media Create hardware charts.
The 3DS XL sold 27,650 units week, as against 36,306 units sold the week prior. Wii U sales were up slightly, as the console managed to sell 8,782 units this week. This could be attributed to the release of Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, but considering sales of last week were 7,180 units it’s not necessarily the biggest bump in sales.
Despite no major releases this week for the Vita, it still held on to second place with 17,081 units sold this week, up from the previous week’s 16,951 units sold. Even more surprising is that sales of the Xbox 360 are up with 256 units sold this week. Will Microsoft ever break the triple digits barrier? Hopefully, but realistically, no.
The PlayStation 4 will launch in Japan on February 22nd. Though it will only be on sale for the last two days of the week to qualify for Media Create’s charts, it should have a significant enough impact. Stay tuned for more information.
