After years of development, lots of hype and promises, and an early access period, Dreams finally released on PS4 last month. The part game, part game development tool garnered huge praise all around. While it’s still limited in many ways, it’s kind of incredible what people have managed to make in it already. One would assume that this is going to be a very long term project, one that will maybe chain developer Media Molecule to it for the rest of their existence. Whether that will be the case or not remains to be seen, but the company does want to do other games down the road.
In an interview with Edge magazine (issue 344), company Co-founder Alex Evans confirmed that the developer would be making a new game at some point in the future. What that is, they haven’t really landed on just yet, but it’s definitely on their mind.
“It’s Media Molecule and we’re a game making studio, so one of the things I want to preserve is the magic of a studio that makes games, and the tools comes out as well.
“So although there will be the part of the studio that’s making features and Create mode enhancements, we’re going to make a game for sure. Because we’re a game-making studio. But we honestly haven’t decided.”
Dreams, I imagine, is something that will be a very long term project. The game has roadmap, for instance, but it’ll be something that will need to be constantly updated and refined to remain viable. But hopefully, Media Molecule can manage to make something else in-between.
