Media Molecule’s Next Project is Not a Dreams Sequel

The developer isn't yet ready to talk about what it's next game will be, but it has confirmed it won't be a Dreams sequel.

Media Molecule has made the announcement that it will be ending support for Dreams on September 1, with the developer shifting focus to new project- but what exactly is that new project? Media Molecule has offered some brief insight on that front, even if concrete details are understandably scant at this stage.

Though the developer is unwilling to go into detail for now, it says it’s next project will continue to focus on “bringing joyful, playful, innovative experiences to players”- which isn’t surprising, coming from the folks that brought us LittleBigPlanet and Dreams.

“Media Molecule will continue to work on bringing joyful, playful, innovative experiences to players around the world,” the developer says. “We’re currently working on a new project that we’re not ready to talk about at this stage, but stay tuned for more information in the future.”

So does that mean the next Media Molecule game is going to be a sequel to Dreams? Apparently not. Medial Molecule says its next project is unrelated to the Dreams IP. Whether that means it’s a new IP or if Media Molecule is perhaps returning to LittleBigPlanet is unclear- though the former seems more likely.

“Media Molecule is working on a new project,” the developer says. “We are not ready to talk about this yet, we can confirm that it is not Dreams 2, or the Dreams IP.”

How far along that game is in development and what it will ultimately turn out to be remains to be seen, and clearly, we’re probably going to have to wait a while before we find out. Until then, however, though Dreams support is ending, it will remain online and let players keep on creating, playing, and sharing, so there’s that.
