Metroid Prime 4 was originally announced all the way back at E3 last year, but even though it’s been a year and a half since, and Nintendo has hosted multiple Direct broadcasts in that period, we haven’t seen a single second of footage, or even a single screenshot, in all that time. However, Nintendo of America’s President Reggie Fils-Aime may now be teasing a reveal for the game at The Game Awards this December.
Geoff Keighley, the man who produces and hosts these awards, posted a tweet with a picture of himself, celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck (I don’t know why, and don’t ask me. Maybe he’s got bitten by the Hideo Kojima bug of hanging out with random famous personalities), and, yup, Reggie. This on its own tells us nothing other than that Nintendo will be at the Awards, but they always are, so that’s not anything in and of itself.
It’s Reggie’s shirt that’s interesting— it’s a Metroid shirt, which has sparked speculation on Twitter, ResetEra, and elsewhere, that Metroid Prime 4’s world premiere at The Game Awards is being teased. This would not be out of character for Nintendo, who have previously revealed gameplay for Breath of the Wild at the event, and made announcements, such as Bayonetta 3, there.
It’s just speculation at this time. But come December, and we should know one way or the other.
