Metroid Prime Remastered Sells 1.09 Million Units

Nintendo's remaster of the critically and commercially acclaimed GameCube title stealth-dropped on the Switch last February.

Nintendo’s first-party heavyweights like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Animal Crossing: New Horizons continue to perform well on the Switch. However, its newer titles are also off to strong start, particularly Metroid Prime Remastered. Surprise launching on February 8th for the Nintendo Switch, it sold 1.09 million units as of March 31st, 2023.

First available on the Nintendo GameCube in November 2022, Metroid Prime is the first title in the series to offer a first-person perspective. It received universal acclaim for its gameplay, visuals, sound design, and more. The remaster sticks to the original’s tenets while extensively enhancing the graphics, coming off as remake in some cases.

Of course, there’s still no update on Metroid Prime 4, the next mainline title in the series. It was first announced in 2017, and development restarted in 2019 with Retro Studios now at the helm. The latter has been hiring for several positions since then, but a release window is still forthcoming. Stay tuned for further updates in the meantime.
