Microsoft Needs to “Invest in Teams, Empower Them Creatively, and Give Them Time”- Phil Spencer

"I hear you."

The one thing that I think we all can agree on is that the Xbox One’s first party lineup is, to put it charitably, fairly lacking. This is actually an issue endemic to the Xbox brand, and Microsoft’s thus far total lack of commitment to actually invest in making games. However, to Xbox boss Phil Spencer’s credit, this is a problem he has acknowledged, and agreed needs fixing.

Speaking in response to a Twitter fan, who asked Phil Spencer for “something new and big” and “not multiplayer”, Spencer said he agrees with that assessment, also noting that Microsoft needs to invest in new development teams, empower them creatively, and give them time to implement their vision- which seems like a tacit, implicit admission that this is something Microsoft has not done so far.

If this is true- and Microsoft has indicated it is working on it first party for a few months now- chances are we won’t see Xbox’s first party situation improve for a few years now. But I wonder if we might not see some announcements or teases from them come E3 anyway.
