Another week, another round of the Nintendo Switch topping the hardware sales charts in Japan. Last week, the Switch sold almost 41,000 units, which was a minor increase from the 38,000 units it sold last week. Nonetheless, it is clear now that the system’s stock is currently being held back in anticipation of next week, when the long anticipated Super Mario Odyssey launches at last.
On the software side of things, Warner Bros. Middle-Earth: Shadow of War ended up topping charts, with 20,000 units sold- which actually indicates just what a dismal week this was for software sales in Japan last week. Square Enix’s new RPG Lost Sphear actually debuted last week, but sales appear to have been dismal- only 13,000 units total seem to have been sold, with PS4 getting 7,300 units out of those and the Switch getting 5,700 units.
Hopefully, this is one of the last weeks that sales in Japan remain so low- with Super Mario Odyssey launching soon, we should maybe see some life breathed back into the market.
