Monster Hunter and PS4 Continue Reign Atop Charts in Quite Week for Japanese Sales

A monstrous hold for Monster Hunter World.

The newest Media Create report for Japanese video game hardware and software sales is out, and it looks like Monster Hunter World is continuing its monstrous (heh) reign atop the software charts. Newcomer Secret of Mana ended up coming in second place. Meanwhile, perennial Switch evergreen games, such as Splatoon 2, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and Super Mario Odyssey, continue having surprisingly strong holds on the chart.

Also having a surprisingly good hold is Nintendo Switch on the hardware charts, with almost 40,000 units sold last week; it’s surprising because the Switch has not had any major new release since Xenoblade 2 almost three months ago now.

As good as the Switch did, the PS4, buoyed by Monster Hunter, still outdid it- with almost 50,000 units sold, it topped hardware sales charts in Japan last week. It will be interesting to see if this is something it can continue doing on a routine basis going forward.
