Mortal Kombat 11 is out now, and outside the backlash to the game’s in-game economy design that led to several patches to address it, the game is still one of the franchise’s best, and has hit the sales charts with a solid brutality. It’s not the only good news for the brand, however, as it’s heading to the big screen once again for another Hollywood adaptation, which will begin filming soon in South Australia.
It’s not the first time Mortal Kombat has been to the movies. Most people probably remember the first film in the 1990s (while also desperately trying to forget the second one), which actually managed to capture the tone of the games pretty well, with a mix of serious martial arts drama and campy undertones. As you can see from the tweet below, obviously it’s early and we don’t have a cast list, but the new upcoming movie will be produced by James Wan, known for his work on Aquaman, Fast 7, and The Conjuring series of films.
Mortal Kombat 11 is available now for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC. You can check out our review of the game here.
