1080p/60FPS.
Marketing speak has taught us that that is the desirable standard for a game to reach if it is to be considered properly next generation. We laugh at games that can’t hit that resolution (particularly if they are on the Xbox One), jeer at them if they can’t even manage 60FPS (see the backlash against DriveClub or The Order for proof), and generally, we seem to care more about the dots and frames on our screen than we do about the games themselves.
Naughty Dog is all in- they want to go beyond what we expect from our next generation games. They tell us that their The Last of Us Remastered, which has already been confirmed to run at 1080p, is currently being worked on so that they can make it run at higher than 60FPS. Talk about overkill, right?
“We are coding hard over the weekends with our Naughty Dog graphics team to push The Last of Us past 60 fps,” their coder Corrine Yu said over Twitter.
Of course, watch this statement spark another round of obnoxious fanboy wars. Watch people obsess more over how other systems can’t seem to manage this kind of performance rather than discuss, you know, the games themselves.
Disgusting.
