New 2D Mario to be Announced at Upcoming Nintendo Direct – Rumour

Nintendo will allegedly also announce a remake of a classic SNES title at its rumoured upcoming Direct presentation.

Though Nintendo wasn’t involved in the recent flurry of events and showcases, we’ve started hearing rumblings of a Nintendo Direct that’s supposedly coming later this week. But assuming that that is indeed going to happen, what games can we expect to see, especially given previous reports that have claimed that The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom was going to be Nintendo’s final major release for the Switch?

Interestingly enough, Nintendo is allegedly set to announce a new 2D Super Mario platformer. That’s according to @Pyoro_ND on Twitter. In addition, the leaker has also claimed that Nintendo will announce a remake of a classic SNES title.

Though not a leaker that many might be aware of yet, they have, in recent weeks and months, had accurate leaks relating to a number of games, including Sonic SuperstarsEverybody 1-2-Switch!, Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon, and the Yakuza and Judgment games.

The leaker also says that the new 2D Mario game will not be part of the New Super Mario Bros. series. Interestingly enough, this aligns with previous leaks, which claimed that a new 2D Mario game featuring a new art style was in development, and that it was set to be the beginning of a new series.

Whether or not this is accurate remains to be seen, but with recent rumours claiming that a Nintendo Direct is scheduled for sometime in the coming days, it might not be too long before we find out for sure.
