While Nintendo Wii is leading the pack and is currently number one in sales as compared to the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 Square Enix CEO, Yochi Wada has hinted that Nintendo might release a new console by 2011. Speaking to Financial Times, he expressed that the new console will be more hardcore, more in terms of what Sony and Microsoft are offering right now. He also added that: “Present game machines already have a lot of functions: they are a network terminal, a Blu-ray or DVD player, and a gaming machine. Compared to these three pillars, the [new motion] controllers are quite limited, so the impact may be small. They are an extension of the gaming function.”
Will we see a new console in 2011? Only time will tell.
