After months of rumors, Sony has finally confirmed its new subscription service – a revamp of PlayStation Plus with three separate tiers launching in June. The Essential tier is what fans are currently paying for while the Extra and Premium tiers offer access to a library of over 400 PS4 and PS5 games. Premium subscribers even gain access to retro titles from the PS One, PS2, PS3 and PSP generations.
That being said, the company has yet to confirm the entire library for both of its higher tiers. Marvel’s Spider-Man, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Death Stranding and God of War (2018) are few titles but which games from “third-party partners” are included? According to PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan in an interview with GamesIndustry, the service will have “every major publisher” with conversations apparently going well.
“Whether it’s indies, whether it’s big games, or things that celebrate our heritage… all sorts of games. We are going to have all of it, and hopefully a line-up that ticks all sorts of boxes,” says Ryan. Of course, whether this includes the likes Bethesda Softworks and Activision-Blizzard, which are both owned by Microsoft, remains to be seen.
In the meantime, PlayStation Plus will continue to cost $10 per month even as it transitions into PlayStation Plus Essential in June. PlayStation Plus Extra will cost $15 per month, $40 per quarter and $100 per year. PlayStation Plus Premium will cost $18 per month, $50 per quarter, and $120 for per year. Stay tuned for more details in the meantime.
