New PS4 Message Bug Is Forcing People To Factory Reset Their Consoles

You might want to change your account's privacy settings.

There’s a strange bug going around that’s messing with people’s PlayStation 4 consoles. Essentially, lots of people are being sent private messages that are bricking their consoles entirely, which means the system stops working altogether. As a result, people are having to factory reset their consoles, which means they lose all the data on their system and have to re-install all their games as well.

This was first reported on Reddit, and judging by the traction it’s getting in terms of the numbers of upvotes and responses, it seems a great many people have fallen prey to the glitch. As users on the Reddit thread are reporting, even deleting the messages responsible for causing this glitch entirely (even from your PSN mobile app) doesn’t work. The only workaround to this right now is to sett the privacy settings of who can send you messages on PSN to Private.

It’s best that you do that, because apparently, the message can brick your console even if you don’t open it. Even getting a notification for the message on your system is enough to do that. As it stands right now, there’s been no response from Sony, but it wouldn’t be a stretch to assume that they’re looking into it.

Either way, stay tuned to GamingBolt, and we’ll keep you updated as more info comes our way.
