A lot of gaming developers today actually started out by covering video games earlier- for instance, in the most famous example, did you know that Pokemon developer Game Freak was originally a magazine (called Game Freak) run by its founder Satoshi Tajiri? This kind of thing happens all the time- and as we continue to grow in a world where video games are increasingly common place, I imagine these kinds of transitions will be more an more commonplace.
Another name to add to this list is that of NieR: Automata director Yoko Taro. He is selling his own gaming fan magazine at the ongoing Comiket convention- and the best part is, he isn’t doing it alone. Producer Yosuke Saito is also helping him out with this.
I guess between handling some of the most currently anticipated games (he is involved with NieR: Automata and Dragon Quest XI), he does find the time to goof off and do something like this that is close to his heart sometimes. That’s heartening to know.
