Nintendo Switch Reportedly Enjoyed its Highest-Selling June in Japan to Date

The over six-tear old console sold over 338,000 units in Japan last month, which is the highest it's ever sold in the month of June, and up 68% from last year.

Once a console has entered the seventh year of its life, you’d be forgiven for thinking the momentum of its sales will continue to slow down as it moves into the tail end of its lifecycle, but the Nintendo Switch seems to be enjoying a particularly fruitful period on that front, especially in Japan.

As reported by Nikkei, based on the latest Famitsu weekly sales charts for Japan, the Nintendo Switch sold over 380,000 units in the region throughout the month of June. Not only is that a 68% increase from how much it sold in June of 2022, it’s also the highest number of units the console has ever sold in the month of June in Japan.

The Switch’s lifetime Japanese sales currently stand at just under 29.8 million, which means it’ll likely be hitting the 30 million mark in the coming weeks. It remains the third-highest selling platform in Japan to date, behind the Nintendo DS at No. 1 with over 32.9 million units sold, and Game Boy and Game Boy Color in second place with over 32.4 million units sold.

As of March 31, 2023, the Switch had sold over 125 million units worldwide. Nintendo said at the time that it was expecting sales to taper off over the coming year, while reports have suggested that work on Switch successor is progressing well behind-the-scenes.
