Nintendo And Tencent Confirm Switch China Plans; Tencent To Assist Nintendo With Localization

The two multimedia giants make the announcement official.

While we have known about the partnership between Nintendo and Tencent for awhile now, the duo finally made a formal announcement that the Switch is coming to China, and that the two multimedia giants are going to be working together to try and penetrate a market that’s traditionally not been one for a dedicated console.

On the Chinese social media platform, Weibo, it was finally officially confirmed the system was coming to China. While there still wasn’t an official, solid date yet, Tencent did confirm they would be assisting Nintendo in their localization efforts, as well as setting the Chinese eShop up with the WeChat payment service, making access to funds much easier for the market.

This could be a moment that we look back on in a few years as a massive success for Nintendo. It also could end up like last time Nintendo tried to get into China, which faltered. Now though, with the backing of Tencent, there certainly is a bigger possibility of success.
