It’s been close to two months since Nintendo and The Pokemon Company filed lawsuit against Palworld developer Pocketpair over the grounds of patent infringement, and though specific details on the lawsuit beyond that have been scarce, Pocketpair has now provided further information on the key points of the case made against the company.
As per Pocketpair, Nintendo and The Pokemon Company have alleged that the company has infringed on three patents. As you’d expect, they are seeking an injunction against Palworld, which would result in a suspension of the game’s sales, as well as payments of 5 million yen (on top of late payments and compensation for a portion of the damages) to Nintendo and The Pokemon Company each.
“We will continue to assert our position in this case through future legal proceedings,” Pocketpair writes. “Please note that we will refrain from responding individually to inquiries regarding this case. If any matters arise that require public notice, we will announce them on our website.”
Previously, in the immediate aftermath of being sued, the independent Japanese company said that it would do its best to “ensure that indie game developers are not hindered or discouraged from pursuing their creative ideas.” Read more on that through here.
