Nintendo Announces New (Regular) Switch Model With Better Battery Life, As Well As New Joy-Con Colours

Upto nine hours of battery, and three new colours for Joy-Con controllers.

We might not be getting Nintendo Switch Pro anytime soon, but that doesn’t mean those who want a console/handheld hybrid experience with Nintendo’s system are stuck with the older model of the same. Nintendo has announced a revision of the current (regular) Switch model that brings about slight modifications.

These modifications don’t change the system’s specs or do anything drastic, but battery life has been improved significantly. Where the Switch currently lasts between 2.5 to 6.5 hours, the new Switch model can last between 4.5 to 9 hours, depending on what game you’re playing. Nintendo also uses The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild- so if you’re playing the open world title on your Switch, your system’s battery will now last approximately 5.5 hours, where with the current model, it lasts roughly 3 hours. The new model costs the same as the current one, and will be out in August.

Meanwhile, Nintendo have also unveiled new colours for their Joy-Con controllers. These are dark blue, Neon Orange, and Neon Purple. The blue and yellow are being packaged together, as are the Neon Orange and Neon Purple ones. These launch October 4, and each pack will be available for $79.99. Here’s hoping they’re drift-free (finally).

Meanwhile, if you’re looking for something more handheld oriented, take a look at the recently announced Switch Lite– or its Pokemon Sword and Shield-themed special edition.
