Nintendo Confirms 3rd Party Characters Are Fair Game For The Smash Bros. Ballot

Kratos for Smash.

Last week, after the Nintendo Direct, the Smash bros. Ballot went live- it is a website Nintendo is hosting specifically to invite nominations from the players and fans for future characters to be included in Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U as DLC.

As you can imagine, the prospect of getting to have a say in just who gets in in everybody’s favorite crossover fighter eld to a great deal of excitement, but there were a lot of people who wondered exactly how limited the pool was going to be- would Nintendo be open to nominations for third party characters, for example? This all came to a head when Xbox’s Phil Spencer expressed interest in having Banjo from Banjo Kazooie (a Microsoft owned IP) as a DLC character in Smash.

Now, Nintendo has finally cleared the air regarding this all- any character is fair game. yes, that includes third party characters, or even mascots for other consoles as well.

“Thanks for writing to us. I can certainly understand your interest in if third-party characters are eligible for the Smash Bros. Fighter Ballot. I want to assure you that you are able to submit any video-game character for this ballot. While we are unable to guarantee your suggested character will become a Super Smash Bros. Fighter, rest assured, we do take all feedback into consideration,” they said.

So that’s that, people. Start getting those votes for Crash Bandicoot and Cloud in now.
