For many months, the rumour mill has been churning out reports of two new Switch models being in development over at Nintendo- with one being a more portable, cheaper version of the console, and the other being a more powerful variant. The former has been officially unveiled by Nintendo as the Switch Lite, which would lead many to believe that an announcement for the Switch Pro – or whatever the hypothetical SKU may be called – can’t be far away.
Don’t hold your breath though. It seems the Switch Lite is the only new Switch model being introduced by Nintendo this year, and that if you’re waiting for a more powerful variant of the console / handheld hybrid, you’re going to have to wait a while longer. This comes to us via CNET, who were told by Nintendo of America president Doug Bowser, in their own words, that the Switch Lite is “the only new Nintendo Switch hardware this holiday, as Bowser says the larger Switch won’t get an upgrade right now.”
The Switch Lite announcement, it seems, has proven to be a fruitful one for Nintendo already. The company’s stocks have soared in its wake, while the Pokemon Sword and Shield-themed special edition of the new model is also bound to do well. Here’s hoping Nintendo doesn’t take too long to officially unveil a more powerful big brother to the Lite.
