Nintendo Have Already Officially Clarified How Exactly ‘NES’ Is Pronounced

The short answer: 'Ness'.

Fans of Nintendo gaming systems have long wondered and argued about how exactly ‘NES’ (short for the Nintendo Entertainment System) is pronounced. Now, Nintendo has finally cleared all doubt as to how exactly you pronounce this abbreviation for Nintendo’s first home console that was released back in 1983.

There have been various contenders for how NES must be pronounced, ranging from ‘Nez’ to ‘Ness’, with some even spelling out each letter of the abbreviation. However, one Twitter user pointed out that the correct pronunciation is stated in the museum section of the Japanese version of Wario Ware Gold. In a description of the home console, Nintendo confirms here that the NES is pronounced as ‘Ness.’ However, there are certainly many gamers who have grown up pronouncing it in various ways, and I don’t think even official confirmation is enough to change that. Those who’ve argued otherwise will likely continue to do so.

If anything, howrver, this puts an end to the debate regarding what the correct pronunciation is. Will you be changing your pronunciation now that you know the officially confirmed version? Let us know in the comments.
